We have sized the chromosome of Clostridia BC1 using pulse field gel electrophoresis(PFGE). We estimate the size of the chromosome to be 3,815kb. This estimate is probably a little low as some of the lower bands may be doublets, but this estimate is accurate enough for our purposes. PFGE allows the seperation of very large DNA molecules.
