We have used the 16s ribosomal RNA gene to identify the position of BC1 on a phylogenetic tree. This was done by amplifying the 16s region using 'universal 16s' primers by PCR. The resulting PCR fragment was then cloned into the pHIND2.2 vector and completely sequenced by nested deletions. The sequence was then compared against the Ribosomal Database(RDP) using software available at that site. The following output was generated and from this we can see that, of those present in the database, BC1 is most closely related to the Clostridium pasteurianium.
